Doper Sheep

The Dorper sheep is a hardy and fast-growing meat breed in Kenya, originally developed in South Africa by crossing Dorset Horn and Blackhead Persian sheep. It is highly adaptable to arid and semi-arid regions, making it popular among Kenyan farmers. Dorper sheep have a distinctive black head and white body (Blackhead Dorper) or a completely white coat (White Dorper). They are known for their rapid weight gain, high-quality meat, and resistance to diseases, making them ideal for commercial meat production. Their ability to thrive on low-quality forage and minimal management makes them well-suited for Kenya’s pastoral and agro-pastoral farming systems.
